Patient Pardew is relying

Pardew is therefore targetting next week’s return leg of their Europa League quarterfinal to do most of the damage against Benfica and will concentrate on maintaining Newcastle’s impressive defensive record against overseas opposition tonight.Pardew said: It will be very difficult beating them at their ground but we have to give ourselves a chance for the second leg because we can beat anyone at St James’ Park. But it is a big test for us because when you play a team who are on such a roll, like Benfica, it’s always difficult.Newcastle have not conceded a goal against a foreign team since they lost out to Bordeaux in a dead rubber late last year. Since then, they have gone 377 minutes without being breached, after shutting out both Metalist Kharkiv and Anzhi over successive two-legged ties. They have such great momentum so we are under no illusions just how tough this is going to be. They are a flair team, with so many attacking options. So we will have to defend very well. Yes, this is a stiff ask. But, in football, there is no such thing as mission impossible.Throw in the fact that on the five occasions Benfica have played against English clubs at the quarter-final stage, they have lost each time.
