Newcastle

The Daily Telegraph claims that the north-east club believe that they are entitled to compensation over the injury sustained by the 20-year-old French left-back during Sunday's defeat to Wigan.Newcastle are said to be angry at comments from Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, who played down the severity of the tackle. The ball was there and McManaman went in for the ball and got the ball, as clear as a whistle, then followed through and they collided," Whelan said on BBC Five Live. "He hasn't gone over the ball. That's an accident. It is still unclear about the extent of the damage sustained by Heidara, with initial scans only ruling out broken bones. There is expected to be severe ligament damage that is likely to end the defender's season. There is a strong possibility that the FA will not punish McManaman, who was not even shown a yellow card for the challenge. Although referee Mark Halsey was unsighted, his assistant Matthew Wilkes saw the tackle and clearly did not deem it a card-worthy offence.
