Rio Ferdinand's critics

Lampard has not spoken to his Chelsea club-mate John Terry about his decision to retire internationally. “I know he’s a proud man. I’ll say the same as I said about Rio: I’ve been fortunate to play with both of them and they’re very driven, dedicated, good professionals who train hard week in, week out, and help people in the dressing room around them.Ferdinand has stated his desire to play in the 2014 World Cup. “Brazil is the carrot for all of us,’’ Lampard said. “Rio is a top-class player. He has been in very good form. I watched the Real Madrid game away when he was outstanding as his regular performances for his club have been. It is a loss but as a squad now we have to cover for that.Steven Taylor was on Tuesday called up to replace the injured Gary Cahill 24 hours after Steven Caulker was drafted in for Ferdinand. We are all making a mountain out of a molehill. We have good centre-halves. Joleon Lescott has played a lot of internationals. Chris Smalling has; you see the manager’s faith in him at Manchester United as well as England. Steven Taylor has played at the top-level football for a long time. We have strength in depth.
